My power unit will not turn on, what can I do?

1. Check the main fuse or circuit breaker at the main power supply panel of your home. Reset breaker or replace fuse if necessary.
2. Check the power unit reset button located above the power cord. Pressing the button should restore operation.
NOTE: The reset button is located on the upper left-hand side of the unit where the low voltage wires connect to the unit. It is most noticeable when popped out after the breaker has been tripped.
3. If the power unit still does not come on, try plugging something else such as a hair dryer or lamp into the electrical plug your power unit was plugged into. If the test item does not work, most likely there is an issue with the electrical receptacle. Call an electrician.
4. Were you vacuuming when the unit shut off? If the unit had been running for approximately an hour or more, let the unit cool down for 5-10 minutes and try again.
5. If the issue has not been corrected, or the circuit protector continues to trip after a short period of time the motor brushes may be worn out. Please contact your Local Dealer.


The vac tubing located near my power unit has a black film on it, what is it?

The black film is carbon dust that is caused by the wearing down of the motor brushes. This is not an indicator of bad motor performance, just that the motor is being used. This dust typically accumulates on the PVC tubing that connects to your unit because the tubing has a static electric charge that attracts small dust particles. The best way to remove any of the dust that accumulates is with a stiff brush or vacuuming it. Getting the carbon dust wet causes it to smear.


I have low suction at the end of my hose handle, what could be the problem?

1. The dirt canister may need emptied or the bag/filter may need to be replaced - follow the instructions in your Owner's Manual based on your power unit type.
2. The hose may be clogged. To check if there is an obstruction, unplug the hose and insert an object that is smaller than the diameter of the hose (a butter knife works well). Pass the object completely through the hose, if it stops, that will indicate where the obstruction is located. A dry garden hose can be inserted into the hose to help push the obstruction through.
3. The dirt canister may not be properly seated to the gasket. Follow instructions in your Owner's Manual based on your power unit type. 
4. The tube line may be obstructed. First, check the 90° elbow located directly behind the inlet valves, if an obstruction occurs it will usually not make it past this elbow. If the obstruction is not visible at the elbow, attempt to purge the tubing at each inlet valve. To do this, connect the hose and use your hand to stop airflow at the end of the hose for a couple seconds, then let airflow resume. Repeat if necessary.
If vacuum suction has not been restored, contact your Local Dealer for service.


How do I empty the dirt canister and replace the filter?

1. Unlatch and remove the dirt canister. Latches are located on opposite sides of the power unit.
2. Remove the cyclonic cone by grasping the bottom and pulling straight down.
3. Turn the filter latch (counter-clockwise) on the bottom of the filter and align it with the slots in the filter base.
4. Remove the filter and gently tap it on the inside of the dirt canister to remove the loose dirt and debris. The filter should be replaced at least once a year. If it is time to replace it, models 299e, 599e, 799e, 390, 690, 990, CV1800, CV2200 and CV2600 can use any of the 7" or 10" filters. Models 1099e, 1490 and CV3400 can use either 10" filter available. 5. Lock the filter in place by turning the filter latch clockwise until you feel it snap into place.
6. Dispose of the dirt and debris captured in the dirt canister.
7. Seat the cyclonic cone on the dirt canister.
8. Raise the dirt canister to the base of the power unit and engage the latches. Be certain the dirt canister is seated properly to the gasket on the body of the power unit.

How often should I change my filter?

We recommend at least once a year, however, based on your cleaning needs, you may need to replace it more often. It is also recommended that when the dirt cansiter is emptied, the filter be removed and tapped against the side to remove excess dust/debris. The filter is NOT washable. DO NOT GET THE FILTER WET.  If it is time to replace your filter, please contact your Local Dealer or order online direct from Central Vacuum Headquarters to purchase.

How do I replace the bag?

Disposable Bag Units Only
1. Unlatch and remove the dirt canister. Latches are located on opposite sides of the power unit.
2. Remove the used bag by rotating the cardboard header and pulling down from the plastic bag adapter.
3. Pull off reorder information and seal the bag opening with adhesive flap. Discard used bag.
4. Install new bag by folding over the flap, exposing the hose in cardboard header. Do not remove reorder information from flap until ready for disposal. Align the slots in the cardboard header with the tabs on the plastic bag adapter. push the cardboard header firmly onto the adapter and rotate 45° to ensure that the slots are no longer aligned with the tabs.
5. Raise the dirt canister to the base of the power unit and engage the latches. Be certain the dirt canister is seated properly to the gasket on the base of the power unit.

Does the CarbonCapture® Filter on the DB7000, DB8000 or DB9000 units need to be replaced?

No, the filter is designed to last the lifetime of the motor and is included with any direct motor replacement.
